Main standards
EN ISO 20471 – High-visibility clothing for worker safety.
The standard defines three protection classes depending on the minimum visible area of materials.
Class 3 provides the largest reflective and fluorescent area, ensuring maximum visibility.
EN 343 – Protection against rain, measuring waterproofness and breathability of garments.
EN 343 defines requirements for protective clothing designed to protect the wearer from rain, snow, fog, and ground humidity.
It evaluates two main properties:
Water Penetration Resistance (Waterproofness)
This indicates how well the garment prevents water from entering.
Water Vapour Resistance (Breathability)
This measures how well sweat vapor can escape, preventing overheating and discomfort.
EN 342 – Protection Against Cold Environments
EN 342 is the European standard that specifies requirements for protective clothing used in cold environments, typically below –5 °C.
It ensures that garments protect workers from low air temperatures, wind, and humidity, while maintaining thermal comfort.
EN 342 evaluates thermal protection using several measurable properties. Higher values mean better protection against cold.
